Henry Walter Arnold passed away on November 27, 2010, at the age of 89 years. Henry leaves behind to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 65 years, Lilia; two sons, Walter (Debra) Arnold of Maple Creek and Randall (Colleen) Arnold of Swift Current; two daughters, Beverly (Gordon) Enslen of Minesing, ON. and Shirley Arnold of Bow Island as well as ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard of Calgary and one sister, Alice (Clarence) Robinson of Medicine Hat. Henry was predeceased by his mother, Pauline (Arnold) Kist in 1975; sister, Elvina Sackman in 1960; brothers, Eddie in 1993 and Clarence in 2009. Henry was born on the farm in Irvine on February 13, 1921, where he lived until moving to Whitla at the age of 18 in 1939. In December of 1941, Henry joined the army as part of the 112th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery. He then went overseas in 1942, and after a brief stay in the hospital, joined the Winnipeg Rifles. In 1944, he was a part of D-Day on Juno Beach in Normandy and was wounded in battle in July of 1944. Henry always remembered his time in the military fondly, was very proud to serve Canada, and shared these memories with his family often over the years. Upon his arrival back to Canada, Henry married Lilia Emma Schultz on August 6, 1945, and they happily made their home in Medicine Hat. Henry worked for Maple Leaf Mills where he became a Miller and worked there for 37 1/2 years until the mill shut down in 1983, retiring shortly thereafter. Henry enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and going out for coffee in the afternoon with his friends. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 60 years, the Moose Lodge for over 30 years and was a Lifetime (Founding) Member of the Good Sams. Most of all, Henry cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren...he will be dearly missed by all.
