Joseph Matthew 'Joe' Winn
1971 - 2012
Joseph left his earthly friends and joined his family in heaven on Thursday, February 9, 2012, at the age of 40 years. Along with his loving mother, Anne Karst (nee Lawless) of Medicine Hat, Joe’s memory will be cherished by his father, Mathew Winn of Regina, SK.; aunt, Erin Henderson and family of Phoenix, Arizona; aunt and uncle, Adeline (Keith) Watson and family of Regina, SK. as well as many cousins across Canada, the United States, Britain and Australia. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Frank and Rowena Lawless and Henry and Edith Winn. Joe was born in Regina, SK. on December 29, 1971, moving with his family to Medicine Hat in 1977. This is where he was raised and received his education, attending St. Michael’s Elementary, St. Mary’s Junior High, McCoy High School and the Medicine Hat College. Following his studies at the Medicine Hat College, Joe moved to Calgary where he started his own printing company. He worked hard at his business for eleven years before moving on to sales positions with other print companies in Calgary. Recently, Joe had moved back to Medicine Hat and was enjoying working with young people at the McMan InnBetween Youth Shelter. Joe was always very athletic. For a time, his skills on the soccer field had him competing all across the country. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, and over the last number of years made every effort to get to the golf course as much as possible. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 238 - 2 Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Father Long Vu celebrant. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery following the funeral luncheon in St. Patrick’s Parish Hall. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in memory of Joe may be made to McMan Youth Services at #4, 941 South Railway Street S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 2W3.

I will forever remember Joe as a good friend. Quick to share a laugh, always there to help, in every way kind, considerate and sincere. His sudden passing is tragic and deeply saddening. My thoughts are with his family and friends in this trying time.

Our thoughts & prayers are with you...Emily & Murray Haubrich
I am so very sad for your loss. Our thoughts are with you. I had the opportunity to work with Joe over a year or so, and I can say he truly was one of those rare individuals who geniunely cared about people above everything else. He demonstrated compassion and was always willing to listen to others, defend the underdog and always keep a smile on his face. I knew he had some health challenges, but never imagined he would go so soon. I guess we just never know when our time is. In the short time Joe was here, I know he touched many people's lives, he brought a smile to many faces, and he made the world around him a more human, compassionate place. Thanks Joe, whether you know it or not, I learned a lot from you about humility and about not taking yourself too seriously. May God bless the family and give them the strength needed in these difficult times.
Dear Anne,
I was greatly saddened to hear about the passing of your son, Joe. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
