Henry Aaker Sr.
1930 - 2012

Mr. Henry Aaker Sr. passed away at  Sunnyside Nursing Home, South Country Village in Medicine Hat on Monday, May 28, 2012, at the age of 82 years.  Henry was born May 5, 1930, in Conrad, Montana, a son to Osmond and Mary Aakre.  He married Phyllis Van in Medicine Hat on March 17, 1951.  Henry spent most of his working years as a dedicated employee at A&B Steel and retired after 28 years of service in 1988.  In 1968, he sparked an interest in pony chariot and chuckwagon racing, something he would continue to do for many years.  He loved the outdoors and could often be found hunting and fishing.  He was a member of the Medicine Hat Fish & Game Assoc.  and an Elder in the Metis Local 8.  Henry was a giving man and was always there to lend a hand to those in need.  This was returned to him through the excellent care and attention he received from all the nurses and staff at Sunnyside, and for this we extend our sincere appreciation... he loved his nurses!  Henry is survived by a daughter, Joanne;  son, Henry Jr. (Pat); step-son, Ernie Van (Kathi);  six grandchildren, Dean, Jamie-lynn, April, Corey, Dellon and Valina as well as 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis in 2001, a sister, Lillian and his parents.  The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Findley officiating.  Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.  Memorial tributes in Henry’s memory may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 124, 430 - 6th Ave. S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 2S8.
