The family of Elroy Schmidt are saddened to announce his passing at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the age of 79 years. Elroy was surrounded by a warm and loving family that adored and loved him beyond words. He was fiercely loyal and protective of those he loved – making sure his loved ones were always taken care of. His generosity was incomparable – always lending a helping hand to anyone who needed one, always carrying around extras…’Just in case’ someone needed something, he was always prepared. Elroy was surrounded by special friends that he grew deep bonds with, creating special memories on hunting and fishing trips. He enjoyed exchanging stories, all of which he held close to his heart. He loved gathering with friends at coffee row and wouldn’t miss a day... so raise your cup and share a story with a friend in his memory! Elroy was beyond excited and preparing to leave in a few days for his fishing trip to his favorite spot with dear friends but left a few days early to go fishing on Heaven’s Lake (where there is no limit).
Gone Fishin’
I’ve finished life’s chores assigned to me
So put me on a boat headed out to sea
Please send along my fishing pole
For I’ve been invited to the fishin’ hole
Where every day is a day to fish
To fill your heart with every wish
Don’t worry, or feel sad for me
I’m fishin’ with the Master of the sea
We will miss each other for awhile
But you will come and bring your smile
That won’t be long you will see
Till we’re together you and me
To all those that think of me
Be happy as I go out to sea
If others wonder why I’m missin’
Just tell ‘em I’ve gone fishin’
Elroy was cremated with dignity and his memory will be silently remembered by family and friends. A Special Thank you to Dr. VanMulligen and the ER staff at MHRH, STARS, Foothills Hospital and to all those who have sent condolences.

My deepest sympathy to all of Elroy's family. Elroy was a very good friend to my husband. They shared a lot of the same past times, hunting and fishing. A special bond was formed between the two of them.

Our hearfelt condolences to the entire Schmidt family. Our paths crossed with Elroy's off and on - it was always a pleasure to meet and chat with him. Yep, he may be fishing but he has been welcomed 'home' royally. God Bless you all.

Elroy was a very good friend and I will always remember the good times we shared, the barbecues, birthday meals, holiday trips as well as hunting and fishing expeditions.
He was also one the most generous people I have known; always there with a helping hand. He could fix anything from the crack of dawn to a broken heart. You will forever be missed by me and my family.
Rest in peace old friend.

My condolences go out to all of Elroy's family. I met Elroy years ago while working at Canadian Tire and became friends with him right away . I am going to miss his visits and talking about fishing and hunting as well as going for lunch every so often. Elroy was always caring and friendly to myself and my family . I am proud to have called him friend and will cherish his memory.
Our Thoughts and Prayers are with you
