Kate Kottmeier

1959 - 2023

Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Kottmeier(2023)

April 29, 1959 ~ April 22, 2023

It is with profound sadness that the family of Kathleen Anne Kottmeier announce her peaceful, yet unexpected passing in Medicine Hat on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the age of 63 years. Kathleen “Kate” was predeceased by her parents, Stuart Roy Kottmeier and Rose Ellen Kottmeier (nee Farrell) and more recently by her older sister, Shelley (Joe) Litowsky. Leaving behind to cherish her memory are her brother, Timothy “Tim” Kottmeier; sisters, Dale Beaven (John), Colleen Kottmeier and twin sister, Margaret Lohmaier (Bob). Kathleen also leaves to mourn one nephew, Graham Beaven (Anita) and three nieces, Andrea Kottmeier-Moar (Bret), Kyra Beaven (Monty) and Christina McKinley (Robert). Kathleen was born in Medicine Hat and had the privilege of growing up in Ralston. After attending the Ralston Primary School, she continued on to McCoy Senior High School, where she graduated in 1977. Kathleen then attended Medicine Hat College which then led onto a long and incredibly rewarding career with the Department of National Defense; retiring after 37 years of service in May 2018. Throughout her career, Kathleen made many long term friendships. Even after retirement, she returned to work part time with the DND for another year prior to her permanent retirement in June of 2019. During her retirement years, she spent much of her time fostering and rescuing cats. Kathleen’s dedication to this invaluable resource was evident along with her compassion, hope and great love. She had a big heart, a big smile and the greatest gift of all, kindness. A Celebration of Kathleen’s Life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery with a time of fellowship to follow thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility. Memorial donations in Kathleen’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Such Sad News. My sincere condolences to family and friends near and far. Although my time at Base Engineering was somewhat brief Kate was awesome to work with and helped me alot. She had a great smile and we had many laughs. She often talked about her twin sister. Although we both retired in 2018 I still saw her on SM and would run into her in person now and then. She will be missed by many 🥰 ... RIP dear friend and know that you are loved 💕

It was a shock to read about Kate's passing. We, like so many others, knew her from working at CFB Suffield. She always had a smile and loved to joke around...and everyone was 'honey'. It was a sad day when she retired as everyone missed her outgoing personality. Our sincerest condolences to her family and friends and may she rest in eternal peace.

Even though we haven’t spoken in a while, you were very supportive of who I had become. I had told you that your encouragement meant a lot to me. Bless you for being the Angel on earth that you were.

It was with great sadness and shock to hear of your passing, at such a young age. I hope you will be able to smell the coffee pot in your new abode, and NO guy from the UK nagging you about smoking in minus temperatures outside the office. REST in Peace GIRL Jeff B

Kate would be laughing in heaven, to know I am still taking care of my "handsome" husband which she always had time to include in our conversations. Our loving cat Jacx was raised by Kate and she convinced us one day to take him home when she was visiting the SPCA. She knew the personality of each kitten she raised and made sure their personality was matched to the owners. For her family, you had a wonderful sister who had a sarcastic, friendly and loyal personality. I loved her sarcasm as this is where we had the most fun laughing about happenings on base or when she was finally "retired". Kate you will be missed and we will always enjoy your love of CATS.

My sincere condolences on the passing of Kathleen. Having lost a dear brother myself, I know how heartbreaking and emotional it is to lose a sibling, but to lose 2 siblings in such a short period of time must be heart wrenching for all of you. Tim, Dale, Colleen & Margaret my heart goes out to all of you and to Kathleen's other family members and close friends. She has left a mark and will remain in many hearts forever. Rest in Peace Kathleen.
