Ralph Browne

1960 - 2020

Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Browne(2020)

“Don’t cry for me, for I go where music is born” (JS Bach)

Ralph Kevin Browne completed his life’s work on Sunday, January 5, 2020, at the age of 59 years. His larger-than-life persona and his musical legacy will not soon be forgotten. From 1982 through 2000, Ralph served in several pastorates. During the past eighteen years he established and operated Browne’s Musical Academy. He also founded Selah Singers, a community choir. Helping people find their own voice and to discover the rich repertoire of vocal music was his passion. Left to cherish his memory are his wife and best friend, Valerie Browne; his children, Andrew (Julie) and Adam (Danielle); sisters, Carol (Allan) Lennox, Shirley (Don) McIntosh and Wendy (Jim) Crouse; step-mom, Ardith Wolsey and sister-in-law, Joanne Browne. He will be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews who will forever treasure his memory. Ralph will be remembered for his deep love of God and people. A Celebration of Ralph’s Life in word and song will be held at Hillcrest Evangelical Missionary Church, 3785 - 13 Ave. S.E., Medicine Hat on Saturday, January 11, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Shane Andrus officiating. Memorial donations in Ralph’s name are encouraged to be made directly to AJ’s Loan Cupboard, Bay 4, 602A Clay Ave. S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 3K2. This local charity was so helpful to Ralph in recent months.

We are saddened to hear of Ralph's passing. We knew Ralph many years ago when he and his family were neighbors of ours in Napanee on Switzerville Road. Our prayers go out to you, Val, your sons and family and his sisters Carol, Shirley and Wendy and their families. He will be missed. Carol and Wendy told me of the wonderful visits they had with Ralph this past year. Shirley babysat our son many years ago. I have read on facebook of the love & encouragement Ralph showed to so many people over the years. We pray God's comfort & peace upon you at this time.

Medicine Hat is simply not the same now. Thanks Ralph for helping so many people find their voice, and thus their confidence and passion. Thank you for taking my daughter and teaching her skills that she will carry with her throughout her life and apply to so many contexts. You even put me up on stage once with an instrument; something that I would have never dreamed of. It’s now a memory I have with my daughter that I’ll never forget. You made that possible.

Ralph was such a wonderful person. He taught voice to two of my children, Ben and Reagan. He brought so much joy into my children’s lives when they were singing with him. We affectionately named our piano playing Frosty the Snowman “Ralph” . Every Christmas he brings joy to our home as he plays and brings back the memories we have of Ralph. May the peace of the gospel and prayer bring you happiness at this time of sadness. I’m sure Ralph already has a choir singing in heaven.

It's hard to believe, that 30 years ago this coming August, Pastor Ralph officiated our wedding.
I have such fond memories of working with Pastor Ralph during The Singing Christmas Tree, The Living Cross, and directing the church's children's choir under his guidance. He was a wonderful, joy-filled man with a true passion for music and people.
It is with deep sadness that we offer our sincere sympathy to Val, Andrew, and Adam.

Sadly, I didn't know you Ralph, and yet I feel compelled to leave a note here. I was fortunate enough to sing at your tribute concert at the College last year, and the amount of love and admiration going your way was amazing to me. Your gentle spirit and kindness shines through every word spoken about you, and your legacy will resonate for an eternity.

Thank you for inspiring me even though we never met. Godspeed.
