Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Wynia(2019)

I lift up my eyes to the hills...

Psalm 121:1

Tettje Wynia, beloved wife of the late Jacob Wynia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 11, 2019, at the age of 96 years. Tettje was born on April 11, 1923 in Oosterend, The Netherlands. In her early twenties her family moved to Wommels, The Netherlands. She was the oldest of six children. On February 4, 1948, she married Jacob Wynia of Lollum, The Netherlands. Two months later, they immigrated to Canada, settling in the Granum area. Jacob worked for various farmers and Tettje worked for their room and board. In 1957, they purchased a mixed farm east of Granum. Tettje was involved in the church, Ladies Aide, Calvinettes and was custodian of the Granum Christian Reformed Church. In 1972, the family moved to a dairy farm in Agassiz, B.C. In 1979, they moved to Medicine Hat, AB where she resided until her passing. Tettje loved children, especially babies, welcoming each grandchild into her arms. She enjoyed family celebrations, baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, reading, camping and her many trips back to The Netherlands to visit her family. Tettje had a strong faith in God. Other than God, she shared her love with her husband, Jacob, of 65 years; her children, Betty Burke, John (Carol) Wynia, Charles (Leona) Wynia, Shirley (George) Poelman and Nancy (Peter) Dykstra; nineteen grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Tettje loved her family and remembered them in her everyday prayers. Tettje is survived by one sister, Liep Riemersma and one brother-in-law, Douwe Wynia of The Netherlands as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tettje was predeceased by her husband, Jacob on June 6, 2013; parents, Sjoerd and Akke de Vries; one son-in-law, James Burke; one sister, Ettie Agema; three brothers, Willem, Balthazar and Douwe de Vries. Tettje will be remembered for her strength, willingness to help others and being a “sweet” lady. She will be missed and remembered by all who knew her. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so prior to the service at the Christian Reformed Church, 300 Primrose Drive S.E., Medicine Hat on Monday, August 19, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. to 12:55 p.m. The Celebration of Tettje’s life will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor George Koopmans officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Memorial donations in Tettje’s name may be made directly to the Bible League of Canada, P.O. Box 368 Stn Main, Grimsby, Ontario, L3M 4H8.

To the Family of the late Tettje Wynia,
I had the pleasure of meeting your parents when they moved to the Valleyview where I worked as the Recreation Coordinator. I took an immediate liking to them both and enjoyed having opportunities to visit with them. They were so proud of all their family and spoke highly of you all.
Tettje will hold a special place in my heart and I am so honored to have had the opportunity to spend time with her.
    God Bless You all!

Our Deepest Sympathy to Nancy, Peter & Family & to all of Tettje’s family! Your Mother & Grandmother: Great-Grandmother (& her Dear Husband Jacob also) stole my heart about two decades ago when I met them through my Dear Friend, Nancy. I always loved to see Tettje, when she would come into her Doctor’s office where I worked. I will never forget them. They were both so sweet. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all! With Our Love & Deepest Sympathy, Brenda Lee & Gord
