Condolences to all. Ed was old style dedicated worker and good person, met him in Indonesia and he was good to all. Trust he has forgiven us young upstarts (at the time), for our challanges. Good memories from there and in Canada, incl Medan Banff reunion, consulting work, and Arizona / Canada visits. Speedy Creek and all.

Dear Cathi, Tim, Michael & Families:
Ed and Ruth were long-time friends of ours when they lived at Lac Pelletier. Ed and I served with three other residents at the Lake and we were finally successful in getting an environmetally-safe sewage lagoon for Lake people. We spent a lot of time researching and trying to convince a stubborn RM Council of the merits and necessity of such a lagoon. Our committee found a location, persuaded the owner to sell that parcel of land, found a reputable and capable engineering firm and then got word that we were receiving Federal-Provincial-Municipal grant. When the big project was successfully completed, the RM Council invited the Public to the Grand Opening of THEIR project for Lac Pelletier residents. Ed, Glenn Bratvold, Tom Kehoe, Bobby Stringer, and I were very happy to see the end result whether or not the RM gave us any credit. Your Dad was a great neighbor and helped with any positive projects at the Lake. I visited Ed and Ruth a few times after they moved to Medicine Hat and had a good telephone visit with your Dad just a few months ago. Your parents both gave a lot for the benefit and well-being of others and I am sure that you are so proud of their contributions.
    With love,
    Joan Williamson

    To all Edward's family:

I'm so deeply sorry for your loss. Edward is my Dad's cousin, and we have all really appreciated Edward's commitment to researching the Fiala family tree. In 2013, my Dad and older sister and I met up with Edward in Lethbridge and we all visited the old Fiala farmstead together. It was a great day and we had a lot of fun catching up. I have a few photos of Edward (both recent and older) that I'd like to share with you, so I will try sending those via the funeral home.

To all Ed's family, my thoughts are with you at this sad time. Ed was a hardworking, fun loving, 'salt of the earth' guy who was a wonderful friend and neighbour to us and so many others. Our son Douglas summed it up well saying: "He was a truly genuine man." Alan and I so admired how he loved and cared for Ruthie after her stroke. I will dearly miss our passionate discussions on so many topics, his sense of humour and his loving friendship. Rest in peace Edward.

Heartfelt condolences to the Fiala family on our loss. Cousin Edward was always ready to talk about Fiala history. The Hyas reunion & visit to farm at Turin were highlights of our time with him.

We extend our sincere sympathies to the Fiala family.
Our years in Indonesia were made more memorable because of our relationship with your parents. We were young and naive and they became our overseas parents. They were so kind to us and we can only imagine the loss you are feeling at this time. Don spent his formative years as an Engineer working with Ed and looked to him as a mentor and someone he could always rely on for solid guidance and advice.
