In loving memory of
Les Eagles
August 20, 1945 ~ December 17, 2017
John Leslie “Les” Eagles passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday,?December 17, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Home - Carmel Hospice. Husband to Lesley for almost 44 years; father to Kerry and DJ; amazing grandad to Jamie, Jodi, Tianna and Bryton and to the star of the family just now, great-granddaughter, Zaphyara. Les also leaves his family in the UK; daughters,?Aileen and Tina; son, Roger; grandchildren, A.J., Jordan and Josh; great-grandson,?Cody; brother, Alan (Joan) who when in the UK shared many a good time; younger brother, Rich; sisters, Mary and Fran and brother,?Cliff (Linda) who have passed and will be telling jokes with Les by now. Jodi has said that Grandad’s personality allowed him to make many friends over his life time. He was known for his catch phrase, “Let the force be with you”. As always, the support from relatives and friends has helped the family get through this really hard time; son-in-law, Simon (who went from an ‘untouchable’ to “Okay, give us a hug Les”) has been a rock. Les loved life and was never happier then when he was with family and friends telling his tales and jokes. The annual camp-out with friends, Pat, Sam, Sue and Ray... we remember the good times and Port all around. To Bill and Kelly, Les loved you both. From Les to everyone he knew, “Live long and prosper.” Les’ life will be silently remembered by family and friends. Memorial donations in Les' name be made directly to St. Joseph's Home - Carmel Hospice, 156 - 3 Street N.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 5M1.

Please accept my condolences on the passing of Les. Les and I worked together at DRDC. Being both ex-serving members of the British Army, calling Canada our new homes. It was always good to chat will Les in the field, talk about the old days working at BATUS and BAOR. Wish I knew Les was in ill health, would have been good to chat once more with a great friend. Rest easy soldier, your duty is over. You will always be remembered. “Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget-Lest we forget”. Dave Ewing (Medicine Hat)

Dear Lesley, We are heartbroken to hear of the loss of Les. The world is a little sadder for us now. He was such a bright light no matter what was happening around him. We truly hope that the good memories you and your families have sustain the terrible loss. Though I only knew Les and you as a loyal customer his vibrancy and good-hearted nature was such a pleasure. He was so proud of his family and revelled in talking about his children and grandchildren. Know you and yours are in our hearts and prayers in this season and beyond. You have touched our hearts and we will keep you close in our hearts. We wish you good health and healing I this time and beyond. Allen VandenBerg & Glenda

Lesley and family, so sorry to hear about your loss. I will always remember Les - his zest for life, his sage advice, and his entertaining stories. We worked together extensively at DRDC, travelling to the UK, Croatia, Utah, and other far-flung destinations on field trials - and I was honoured to also call him a friend. He could keep his cool in stressful situations and if something needed to be resolved you could count on him to come up with a solution. I also remember his ability to pack almost everything you could possibly need into a small and very organized space. His contributions at DRDC made a lasting contribution to the defence of Canada, and he had a personal impact on all those that knew him.

So very very sad to find out of dear ole Les’s departure. Always has been and always will be in my thoughts.
We had many a laugh and many a conversation on our commute back from BATUS to Southridge.
He loved life and both Les’s were such loving people. I still vividly remember being on their ‘ ranch’ and putting my baby daughter on the back of the horse. I think I even still have the photos. Also remember the laugh trying to stay upright whilst turning on the tricycle he kept there.
Cheers to you mate, love and miss you.
To Les and family. You were truly blessed to have Les as a husband, father, grand and great-grand-father.
Sadly missed but never forgotten.
Don and Joanne and family. Australia RIP

It is with great sadness that I have just found out about the passing of Les. To Lesley and family, please accept my belated condolences.
Les was a larger than life person and soldier and I was so very fortunate to have served with him at the start of my career in the REME. His influence and experience taught me many important lessons that I have continued to used to this day. On of my fondest memories was being woken up in the morning after babysitting the kids. Les was stood there with a Rum and Coke offering it to me for breakfast! Fortunately Lesley gave me some toast later to help the rum go down. Rest In Peace Les. Will have a drink to you tonight.
