Obituary - Benjamin Edel

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mr. Benjamin Edel, beloved husband of Mrs. Elfreda (Freda) Edel, announce his passing at South Country Village in Medicine Hat, on Friday, May 6, 2016 at the age of 90 years of age.  Ben was born in Kolossno, Volhynia, Russia to Albert and Martha Edel and came to Canada as a young child.  On November 28, 1953, he married Elfreda Miriam Edel at the East Olds Baptist Church Parsonage, Olds, Alberta.  Ben and Freda attended Temple Baptist Church in Medicine Hat for many years.  Before his retirement, Ben worked in construction for Agricore.  He loved to rebuild old cars especially Hudsons and fulfilled his lifelong dream of building a family home.  Ben enjoyed music but in particular old hymns, family visits and treasured family Christmases.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Freda; his daughters, Judy Olson, Edwina Edel, Gwendolyn Edel Drake, and  Andrea Edel; sister, Frida Semrau; sons-in-law, Ken Olson and Mark Drake; grandchildren, Joshua Olson, Charlotte Edel and Rachel Edel; brother-in-law, Erwin Standar as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  Ben was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Martha Edel; sister, Adina Standar and son, Corwyn Edel.  A memorial service will be celebrated at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Bob Findley and Brian Monroe co-officiating.  Interment will take place at a later date in the East Olds Baptist Church Cemetery, Olds, Alberta.  If friends so desire, memorial donations in Ben’s name may be made directly to the Samaritan’s Purse Canada, Disaster Relief, 20 Hopewell Way N.E., Calgary, Alberta  T3J 5H5.
