Irene Lutes

1918 - 2005

Mrs. Irene Jeanette Lutes, beloved wife of the late Mr. Gerald "Jud' Lutes, passed away at the Riverview Care Facility on Sunday, February 20, 2005 at the age of 86 years. Irene was born on April 2, 1918 in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter to Jacob and Inga Odland. She moved with her family to southern Saskatchewan, settling on a farm near Aneroid. It was there that she received her education and was raised. In 1939 she moved to Medicine Hat where she met her future husband, Gerald "Jud' Lutes. They were married in 1941 and made Medicine Hat their home. Irene stayed at home and raised their son, Ken. She enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was a longtime member of Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church. For years, Irene lived with Multiple Sclerosis and although she had that adversity in her life, she always maintained a positive and spiritual attitude that would shine from her and touch all those around her. Irene will be missed by her son, Ken Lutes of Vancouver. She was predeceased by her husband Gerald "Jud' and three brothers, Otto, John and Howard. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Thursday, February 24, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Irene's name may be made directly to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 631 Prospect Drive S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 4C2.
