Obituary - Julia Lynch

Julia Lynch

1909 - 2005

Mrs. Julia Irene Lynch (nee Jorgenson), beloved wife of the late Mr. William Lynch, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Sunday, June 19, 2005 at the age of 96 years. Julia was born on May 12, 1909 in Vang, North Dakota. The following year, the family emigrated to a homestead in Shackleton, Saskatchewan. She received her public education at a country school called Badger Mound and completed High School in Cabri, Saskatchewan. Julia entered Nurses Training in Medicine Hat on August 27, 1927 and spent the next three years developing her natural abilities. She always said that her training years were three of the happiest years of her life! Upon graduation she received the Gold Medal for Obstetrical Nursing. It was evident that she had found her calling. Mom had many wonderful stories about her early nursing days at the old hospital. After graduation she worked as night supervisor. On July 11, 1935 she married William Lynch in Medicine Hat. Once married, she did private duty nursing. After the birth of her two daughters she did general duty until her retirement in 1965. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading and gardening. She was a member of the Royal Purple of Canada and the Honorary President of the Nurses Alumnae. Julia was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was admired and respected by those who knew her. Mom will be dearly missed by her daughters, Donna Balfour and Barbara Mills both of Medicine Hat; three grandchildren, Lisa Balfour (Rob Berreth) of Calgary, Doug (Janette) Mills and their daughter Hailey Jorgie of Whitby, Ontario and John (Starr) Mills and their son Robert William of Richmond Hills, Ontario; a sister-in-law Annabelle Cook of Medicine Hat, a brother-in-law Mickey Lynch of Medicine Hat and many nieces and nephews. Julia was predeceased by her husband, William on March 30, 1997; a sister, Ruby Morrey and a brother Melvin Jorgenson. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Thursday, June 23, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Barrett Scheske officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
