Obituary - Fred Laubenstein

Fred Laubenstein

1916 - 2004

Mr. Friederich 'Fred' Laubenstein, beloved husband of Mrs. Katerina "Katie' Laubenstein, passed away at the Sunnyside Nursing Home on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at the age of 88 years. Fred was born on July 27, 1916 in Romania. Fred was known for his ability to "work' at his hobby - watch and clock repair and continued to do so well into his retirement. He loved to treasure hunt at garage sales and then turn around and have his own garage sale and offer a money-back guarantee on the watches and clocks he would fix up and sell. 'Opa' was a tease and enjoyed his grandchildren when they visited. Fred loved socializing, music, reading German newspapers and was always very generous with his time and resources. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 64 years, Katie; sons, Rudolf (Rose) Laubenstein of Redcliff and Gunther (Diane) Laubenstein of Burdett; a daughter-in-law, Lorene (Adolf Ý Laubenstein; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Fred is also survived by a brother, Rudolf (Lena) of Lethbridge and many nieces, nephews and a large extended family in Germany. Fred was predeceased by a son, Adolf in April of 2000. The Funeral Service will be held at the Burdett Christian Community Church, Burdett, Alberta on Saturday, December 18, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Graham Otterbein officiating. Interment will follow in the Burdett Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Fred's name may be made directly to the Gideons International in Canada P.O. Box 3619 Stn Main, Guelph, Ontario N1H 9Z9.
