Mr. Ike Lanz, beloved husband of Mrs. Edna Lanz, peacefully passed away at the Riverview Care Centre on Wednesday, December 23, 2004 at the age of 91 years. Ike was born in Sedley, Saskatchewan on October 24, 1913. Becoming head of the household at a very young age, his years of hard work started on the family farm near Schuler, Alberta. In Medicine Hat, Ike worked for many years at the Five Roses Flour Mill, then gained employment with the City of Medicine Hat, Gas Department, which he retired from in 1978. He loved to dance and enjoyed the occasional beer which enhanced his great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Ike was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Veronica; eldest grandson, Craig Lanz and his first wife of 38 years, Maggie. Following her death, he remarried Edna Reiger in October of 1981. Besides his wife Edna, he will be remembered by his children, Leo (Alberta) Lanz and their children, Carrie and Patty (Don) Jeffels - Angelica; Jim (Lanna Ý Lanz and his children Marlo and Trent; Gary (Shirley Anne) Lanz; brothers and sisters, Tony Lanz of Medicine Hat, Rose Brosnikoff of Medicine Hat, Paulene Fode of Medicine Hat, Katie Berringer of Calgary and Joe Lanz of St. Albert. He is also survived by Eva Lanz of Medicine Hat, Sebastian (Ida) Giesinger of Medicine Hat, Violet Giesinger of Medicine Hat and Martha Giesinger. Relatives and friends met for Prayers at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 238 - 2nd Ave. N.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. with Father John Maes celebrant. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Ike's name may be made directly to the Riverview Care Centre, 603 Prospect Drive S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 4C2.
