Margaret-Ellen Unwin

1918 - 2004

Mrs. Margaret Ellen Unwin, beloved wife of the late Mr. Francis Unwin, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2004, at the age of 86 years. Margaret leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Barbara Bergeron and Frances Gower both of Medicine Hat, as well as one son, Wesley (Laura May) Unwin of Lincoln, New Brunswick. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Lisa (Gary) Bray and sons Tristan and Griffin of Medicine Hat; Richard (Nataschja) Bergeron and daughter, Jennifer of Brooks, AB.; Dennis Bergeron of Medicine Hat, as well as Kathleen (Mark) Udal and sons Logan and Spencer of Medicine Hat. Margaret is survived by three sisters, Frances Clennell of Medicine Hat, Helen Foley of Maple Ridge, B.C., Jacqueline Ford of Calgary, AB.; one sister-in-law, Marion May of Medicine Hat; numerous nieces and nephews in B.C., AB. and Ont.; Laura May's children and grandchildren in New Brunswick, as well as Michelle Hintz and Bill Gower. She was predeceased by her husband Frank; one brother, Jack May, as well as two sons-in-law, Daryl Starner and Ron Bergeron. Margaret was born in Medicine Hat on May 15, 1918, the third child of Jack and Frances May. She lived most of her life in Medicine Hat with the exception of a short stay in Bassano. She met her life partner, Frank Unwin, and wisely heeded her father's advise to "wait until after the war" to marry. Frank returned safely four years later and they married on December 31, 1945. Margaret worked at Dominion Glass during WWII, and then worked at home raising her family for the next 15 years. She started work at A&W when Wes was three years old and worked as a "carhop" for many years. She retired for a short time then worked in the Legion dining room for close to 5 years. She loved bowling, playing darts and walking long distances. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Monday, July 12, 2004, between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M., as well as one hour prior to the funeral service. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Loren Hosfield officiating and interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Alberta Children's Hospital, 300, 1021 - 10 Avenue S.W., Calgary, Alberta, T2R 0B7.
