Mrs. Bernice “Barney” Cameron, beloved wife of Dugald Cameron of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Masterpiece Living at the age of 77 years. Barney’s journey through life began with her birth on December 7, 1932 in Moosomin, Sask. She received her primary schooling and later trained to become a nurse. Barney met Dugald and were married on November 25, 1954 in Moosomin. They made a move to Regina where they would spend the next 20 years raising a family. The couple then moved to Medicine Hat and made it their home for the past many years. Barney enjoyed life and embraced the beauty of mother earth. She liked going to the mountains where she would hike and take in the scenery. She only had to go as far as Police Point Park to enjoy the little things in life, like bird watching and leisurely strolling through the park on the trails. Barney liked to play cards, (especially bridge), and spending time with family and friends. In her retirement she would get together with the girls and go golfing. Labour Day was the time for family to come together in Regina and cheer on her favorite team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Barney had a great sense of humor and took life in stride. She was a wonderful wife and nurturing mother and will be deeply missed by her husband, Dugald; son, Scott Cameron (Leanne Wirch) of Calgary; daughter, Nancy (Tim) Kowalchuk of Calgary and a brother, Donavon (Fay) Tanner of High River as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Evelyn and two brothers, Gordon and Ralph. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Sunday, January 3, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. A Celebration of Barney’s life will follow at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.
